Hof is the Asatru term for a house of worship or a temple. Since the modern resurgence of Asatru in the 1960s, there has always been a dream to have a hof. Reading publications from those early times, all the way up through the 1990s and early 2000s, a hof was “right around the corner”. The Asatru Folk Assembly now has three Hofs, each dedicated to one of our Holy Gods. Establishing Hofs to our Holy Gods, the Aesir, is the greatest calling and also the greatest success of the Asatru Folk Assembly in the twenty-first century.

A Hof district is a geographical territory focused around a specific Hof. Within each district, we have Folkbuilders and Goðar. The Folkbuilders are the people you would reach out to for inquiries on what is going on within your district as well as inquiries about membership with the Asatru Folk Assembly. Goðar of the Asatru Folk Assembly the religious leaders of our Folk. The position of Gothi or Gythia is one of leadership and service to our church. They inherently bear many responsibilities, such as leading marriage ceremonies, funerary rites, naming ceremonies, land takings, coming of age rites, and other rituals for our community.

Do Right and Fear No One

The Asatru Folk Assembly started in Northern California and for the majority of our existence, Northern California was the center of AFA Activity.  In 2015, the dream of a hof, a real and recognizable Asatru house of worship, was finally realized for the first time in the Western Hemisphere and for the first time in 1000 years anywhere.

In 2015 Óðinshof became the first hof of the Asatru Folk Assembly. Óðinshof was made possible and continues to be possible with the love, hard work, and generosity of dedicated AFA members and our friends around the world. On the first of January 2019, the AFA announced that we had paid off the mortgage on Óðinshof in full.

Our annual Midsummer at Óðinshof continues to set AFA attendance records (152 in 2021!).  In addition to monthly rituals and celebrations, Óðinshof has witnessed countless Baby Namings and Weddings.  In 2020 we begin interring the cremated remains of our loved ones in the first Asatru Cemetery.

Óðinshof District encompasses Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, Alberta, British Columbia, Northwest Territories, Yukon, Australia, and New Zealand.

In 2020, the Asatru Folk Assembly celebrated its 25th anniversary. In 2020, the AFA also established our second hof! Þórshof is the transformation of a former Methodist Church that was built in 1876. This hof is a testament of love and devotion from our AFA family to Asa-Þórr.

Þórshof District is the largest of our current hof districts and is home to about half of all AFA members.

Þórshof District encompasses Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, and Europe.

Guided by True North

North Dakota and Minnesota rose rapidly as one of the most vital and consistent areas of the Asatru Folk Assembly. This growth took shape in an annual national event, Fall Fest in 2016. Years of hard work and success paid off in 2020 with the establishment of Baldrshof!

Baldrshof District encompasses Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Manitoba, Nunavut, and Saskatchewan.

Njörðshof
Fourth Hof of the Asatru Folk Assembly

The Harshest Winds Make the Strongest Wood

In August of 2022 Njörðshof opened as the fourth Hof of the Asatru Folk Assembly. Seeing only fitting to have the God of the sea dedicated in Florida. Njörðshof is located less than a mile off of the Suwanee River in the heart of North Florida. White Springs has over the years become a special place in the hearts of AFA leadership and members alike, even before Njörðshof was a consideration. While many others sites did not make it to the signing table, White Springs seemed to be THE place for Njörðshof.

Njörðshof District encompasses Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas, South Africa, and Argentina.
